Robert Kilrain proudly presents
HIS 1966 CHEVROLET IMPALA

09/06/03
I had the Impala for about 3 1/2 months now. And just like with my 64 Impala I couldn't tell anyone until I visually surprised everyone.

There are 2 reasons for me waiting (INCREDIBLY INPATIENTLY) to give the car to Robert and to tell everyone about it. First, I got the car just before I left for Europe (in mid June of 2003) which made it impossible to get the ownership changed to my name. The second reason (and the biggest reason why) is because the Notary messed up the paper work for getting the title and license plate. So I had to wait an (unbearable) additional month and a half for the title and license plate.

I've known about this car for over 5 years. When I approached the owner about buying it for myself (back in 1999) he wanted $3,000 for it. After looking at the body condition and thinking that I didn't have the confidence to fix it, I passed up on the car. Who would have thought that a couple of years later I would get a 1964 Impala.

But I still wanted that 1966 Impala.

In late 2002, the owner of the car lost his business and needed to get rid of the car. He is friends with one of the mechanics that I work with at the garage, Tony Zullo. The owner of the Impala gave the car to Tony in late April of 2003. GAVE IT TO HIM!!!!! Once I heard of this, I immediately asked Tony what his intentions were. He promptly responded saying that he was going to restore the car. This broke my heart and I left him to restore the car.

On my way home I dreamt so much about the car. I thought that if I got it, I would give it to Robert. At this point my gut was screaming at me, 'YOU ARE GOING TO GET IT! Start looking for parts!'. Needless to say I started researching for the parts that evening. I was so confident that I would get the car. I just didn't know how.

2 weeks before I went to Europe (about 2 weeks after Tony got the car), Tony called me and asked if I wanted to buy the car. I COULD NOT BELIEVE IT!!! I told him yes and that I would look at the car the next day. Once I hung up with him I knew it was a sign to get it for Robert.

After looking at the car and determing what was needed, Tony and I agreed to $1,500 (including a new starter). That same day I called the metal shop and got the Driver side floor board and the trunk parts.

This car is no peach, but I know that Robert is going to make this a BAD MO FO!!!!!

Let me know what you guys think of the pictures :) robsride@kilrain.com

350 V8
(The original 396 V8 TurboJet was removed and I do not know why)

The car does run, but it does need some work. It smokes a little when it starts up. But with Robert, that is a minor issue.

INTERIOR SPECS:
With the exception of the trim above the rear windows, the interior is immaculate. The Driver and Passenger side windows stick but the smaller windows do not.
